Maha Cyclone: Heavy winds likely in Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep

A red alert has been issued in Lakshadweep and Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal said rehabilitation centres have been opened in the Union Territory. Cyclone Maha is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Thursday afternoon.


Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) has warned that Cyclone Maha is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Thursday afternoon. Heavy rains with winds reaching as high as 115 kmph is also expected in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep. 

Meanwhile, a red alert has been issued in Lakshadweep and Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal said rehabilitation centres have been opened in the Union Territory. Orange alert has been declared in 10 districts including Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. And yellow alert in four districts- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam.
