Flash floods in Hyderabad, people take shelter on rooftops

Incessant rainfall last night caused the Balanagar Lake in Hyderabad to swell and overflow, causing huge flash floods in nearby areas.

Days after heavy rains left at least 50 people dead and damaged property worth thousands of crores in Telangana, Hyderabad was hit by flash floods on Saturday.

Some areas in the city received ove 150 mm rain through the day, just a little short of the 190 mm reported on Tuesday.

The weather office in Hyderabad has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in some parts of the city on Sunday.

In a tweet, Vishwajit Kampati, director of vigilance and disaster nanagement at GHMC, said: "The Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) were continuously working on the field clearing water stagnations and inundations and all possible measures were being initiated in view of the rainfall."
