Festival of lights turns into days of darkness for few as negligence causes vision loss, facial injuries

Over 10 persons so far have suffered injuries due to bursting of crackers. The victims comprise people who lit up fireworks and bystanders. Realising that there will be emergencies during Deepawali, Minto Eye Hospital deputed extra staff for round the clock treatment.

10 people from Bengaluru have become victims to crackers this Deepawali. In one of these cases, the vision of a six-year-old is doubtful to ever return after his eyes were torn apart. To ensure that most cases get timely treatment and to save many from losing sight, Minto Eye Hospital has deputed over 30 extra staff on a rotation basis to attend to patients.

In order to bring down the number of incidents, the hospital along with NGO's visited many schools to bring about an awareness among parents so that they condition their children well and teach them about safety standards during Deepawali celebrations and also monitor their children while lighting fireworks.

According to doctors, so far, 10 cases have been reported at Minto Eye Hospital alone and with the festival being celebrated for another couple of days the number could easily swell up.
