BSF jawan on 10-day leave takes up food distribution initiative amid lockdown
Visiting his family on a 10-day leave and upon seeing poor and daily wage and construction workers in his neighborhood suffering due to pandemic enforced lockdown and no income, N Ramesh distributed ration kits that could suffice for over two weeks during these tough times.
Ramesh with help from his friends in the village, bought basic food items like rice, dhal, sugar, wheat flour, oil and few masala packs in bulk and readied over 50 ration kit and distributed them to the poor and needy.
Speaking to media after the distribution, Ramesh who serves as a jawan with Border Security Force, Battalion 87 and serves at border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, said that he was encouraged by his friends from the village. "As I come one or twice a year for a short duration, I wanted to do something for my people here and as many have no jobs and are going through hardships during lockdown, I decided to do my bit and help them with some ration kits," said N Ramesh.
Similarly, during the first wave in 2020, Army Jawans who had come to Terdal village on holiday were on street rounds and were ensuring people stay indoors to ensure the lockdown is followed and the public do not get infected. The jawans then made lockdown violators sit-ups, and forced them to carry water cans as punishment.
However, these actions did not go down well with the police who then asked the jawans not to do such things and inform the police instead as it is their duty.
