Bharat Bandh: Mixed reactions across country

More than 10 trade unions across the country observed Bharat bandh and protested over Centre’s policies and action towards workers. However, the response to the bandh was mixed as some parts functioned normally while protesters were detained in some other parts across the country.

Bengaluru: Trade unions are observing Bharat bandh across the country and hitting the streets in protests citing dissatisfaction with the government's “policy and action” towards workers. Protests have been escalating in some parts of the country, while police have detained protesters. Scenes were different in Tamil Nadu’s Marthandam with shops shut down and buses parked in the depot while passengers waited for it to ply. However, Bengaluru functioned normally with all transport services operational and traders, vendors and shopkeepers making business as usual.

The members of workers' union in Punjab staged a protest at Jalandhar's Focal Point and prevented some people from going to work by threatening them with sticks. The leader of the farmers’ union and other trade unions leaders led the protest and raised slogans against the policies of the union government.
