BBMP turns quarries into parks, to convert landfill into golf course

After years of making life miserable for residents of villages near the city by dumping mixed solid waste into quarries, the BBMP's is now turning the same into parks. The two-acre area known as Bagaluru quarry from where a smell would emanate, has now become a lung space. According to BBMP, the Bellahalli quarry pit is next on the list and Mandur landfill will be turned into a golf course.

BBMP has pulled a Houdini's act by turning a quarry into a beautiful park and will continue to do the same with other quarries in its limits. According to officials, the two-acre area called Bagaluru quarry was turned into a park by first removing leachate and methane. Soil and manure were added later. Now the over 100 feet deep pit has become a lung space for locals.

If all goes according to BBMP’s plan, then 93 acres of its biggest landfill in Mandur in city's outskirts will also be turned into a lush green golf course soon.
