Calcutta University: The First Modern University Of South Asia
On this day in 1857, University of Calcutta was founded as the first full-fledged modern university in South Asia. The university has produced many scientists and Nobel laureates all around the world which includes Rabindranath Tagore, Ronald Ross, Amartya Sen, C.V.Raman, Satyajit Ray, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Meghnad Saha, Satyendra Nath Bose and Ashoke Sen.
