Demanding they be sent back to their homes in UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and other states, the migrant labourers blocked Bengaluru-Tumkuru Highway in Karnataka, pelted stones  that left an inspector injured.

Not happy with Bengaluru municipality making arrangements for their stay at BIEC on Tumakuru Highway Road, migrant labourers from North India blocked the National Highway and also clashed with the Karnataka Police. Despite appeals, the labourers did not listen and pelted stones. As a result, an inspector suffered head injury. The police also resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

The inspector is Identified as Mudduraj attached to Peenya Police Station.

The inspector is being treated at a local hospital and is said to be stable. Meanwhile, revenue minister R Ashoka and city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao reached the spot late evening on May 4 and pacified the agitators and assured them that arrangements would be made for them to go back to their respective states.

The migrant labourers from various parts had earlier gathered at Freedom Park demanding to go back to their native. As they could not go back, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) housed them near BIEC on Bengaluru-Tumakuru Highway. But the labourers in desperation protested again on May 4.
