Lockdown, emptiness bring peacock to Bengaluru street; residents save bird from miscreants

Residents of Jayanagar were treated to wildlife in their backyard during the lockdown. Empty roads and less human movement allowed a peacock to extend its journey into city limits. Wildlife rescuers were able to release the bird back into its habitat.

After the incident of a peacock knocking at a windowpane went viral on social media, another peacock took centre stage. A peacock found itself in the city, an unlikely place for one to spot the bird.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Jayanagar 7th phase in Bengaluru South zone limits. A few residents found the peacock roaming on the empty roads and often taking flight to perch on low lying tree branches. Few miscreants caught the bird and were taking it along with them. However, furious residents stopped them, took the bird and called wildlife rescuers of the BBMP.

Residents say, until the team arrived, the peacock was housed at a provision store and the bird was released back into the forest.

The video of the incident has gone viral.
