Farmer destroys standing crop chillies, blames price crash, lack of market facility

Lockdown and shutting of markets have had cascading effects on farmers as their produce have ended up rotting due to lack of transportation and price crash. Now, a farmer in Karnataka’s Gadag destroyed his two acres of chillies by a running tractor over the crop.

Frustrated with price crash and lack of transportation, a farmer from Abbigeri in Karnataka’s Gadag destroyed his standing crop by running a tractor over his 2-acre produce.

The farmer is identified as Basavaraj. He said that due to lockdown, the markets were shut and the price of the produce crashed drastically. With no support from the government, he had taken this decision out of anger to ran his tractor over his 2-acre land of chillies
