Coronavirus lockdown: Tonnes of tomatoes dumped on roads as prices crash

The coronavirus lockdown period may soon result in scarcity of vegetables, especially tomatoes, as farmers in Kolar, Karnataka, have dumped tonnes of tomatoes on the road as a sign of protest. The farmers claim that the prices have crashed. 
 

Kolar: Tonnes of tomatoes have been dumped on the road in Karnataka's Kolar as price have crashed. The farmers claim that there for a 15 kilo box of tomatoes, the price is between Rs 30 to Rs 100 and only retailers are making profits.

The farmers say that they have invested lakhs of rupees per acre in growing tomatoes, but they are not even getting half the investment in return. And during the coronavirus lockdown, the movement of goods has become tough, and as a result, tonnes of tomatoes were dumped on the road on Monday midnight.
