Coronavirus lockdown: Tamil Nadu Police's innovative idea to keep youths off the streets

Tamil Nadu Police are doing all it takes to keep people indoors during the 21-day coronavirus lockdown. From singing songs to handing out questionnaire, the police have come up with new ideas to guide and create awareness among people.

Rameswaram: The police are having an uphill task of confining people to their homes amidst the 21-day coronavirus lockdown. From monitoring those under house quarantine to creating awareness, Tamil Nadu Police are adapting to new and innovative ideas to restrict people’s movement. "Who is corona’s lover?” is one of the 10 questions in the questionnaire titled Kanyakumari District Police Covid-19 Awareness Test – I. This questionnaire has been prepared by the police for the youth caught loitering on streets during the lockdown.

Around 200 youths have taken up the test over the last two days. For each wrong answer, the youths have to do 10 squats (thoppukaranam) as punishment. With questions aimed at enlightening them on the magnitude of the COVID-19 crisis, they are made to take an oath to abide by the government’s lockdown orders. The questionnaire has gone viral on social media. Meanwhile, Theni Police are creating awareness among people by singing Rajinikanth's Darbar song.
