Director Ram Gopal Varma took a potshot at the Telangana Excise Enforcement DIG Akun Sabharwal for “selectively” targeting some Tollywoods artists in the shocking Hyderbad drug bust.

Ram Gopal Varma, who came out in support of the Telugu stars, said that the Excise department was selectively targeting Tollywood. They are making it look as if the Telugu film industry is somehow to blame for the problem.

RGV posted a series of Facebook posts on Saturday in support of his protégé director Puri Jagannadh and Tollywood. He posted, "I am very much wondering if the school children taking drugs also will be summoned by SIT and interrogated for 12 hours like they are doing to Poori Jagan and Subba Raju .. just asking?”

After receiving criticism for his comments on the Excise department especially Akun Sabharwal, he posted back saying, “Nobody is denying the integrity of Mr. Sabarwal or his department but even without any charges or conclusive proof.”

Media is being fed information to destroy the reputations of people apart from causing distress to their families is highly deplorable, he said.

Ram Gopal Varma also remarked that the law would take its own course. "But for the moment Akun Sabharwal is being projected like Amarendra Bahubali by the media. Maybe SS Rajamouli should make Bahubali 3 with him," he commented.

In another comment targeted at the negative hype created by the media he asked the authorities, “Why can't Akun Sabharwal say to the press that only he is the authorised person to speak on what's going on and rest are nothing but ill-informed speculations?

Akun Sabharwal's silence is making speculations sound like truth thereby causing tremendous damage to the reputation of people," he said.

The posts by RGV kicked off a hot debate in the social media among the fans of Tollywood.

Excise commissioner Chandravadan denied victimisation of Tollywood and said, “We are very serious about finding the real culprits. Each person will be questioned as per the provisions of the law”.
