Batman fans, 'force' your Smartphone to make calls

ForcePhone

A show of strength is what it is needed to make calls with the help of this software, newly developed by the engineers at the University of Michigan in the US.

According to an India Today report, the software, named "ForcePhone" was inspired by the Batman movie The Dark Knight released in 2008. In the film, all the smartphones of the fictional Gotham City were turned into sonar systems which allowed Batman to have a city-wide visual surveillance to check criminal activities.

With this software, you don’t need to have special built-in sensors in the phone to perform functions such as making a call and opening the gallery. Just a squeeze on the body of the phone would unlock the menu options of the phone, said the maker of ForcePhone, Kang Shin, a professor of computer science in electrical engineering in an interview.

Shin said ForcePhone uses the phone's microphone and speaker, which produces an ultrasound frequency in a range of 18KHz to 24 KHz. This ultrasound is then used to command the phone to perform a certain function.

ForcePhone would be compatible with all the smartphones as it doesn't require any extra hardware support and runs entirely on the already available hardware in the phone.

However, ForcePhone is still in its testing phase and is yet to be released for public use.
