Police resorted to lathi charge at a mob who staged a protest against ONGC officials at Kathiramangalam.

On the evening of Friday, June 30, 2017, villagers noticed some oily fluid flowing from the pipes laid out in the farm lands of Kathiramangalam.

Following this, the ONGC officials have arrived at the spot to conduct an inspection and to plug the leak, but the villagers did not allow the officials to carry out the same. It led to a clash between the villagers and the officials which eventually prompted the policemen to lathi charge the protesters.

It left several persons injured, and the demonstrators were chased away.

A barricade that was set near the leakage was burnt by some unidentified persons. It created panic among the villagers.

The determined villagers said that they would not drop the protest until the Collector arrives at the spot.

On hearing this leakage issue, people from the other villages also gathered at the spot.
