Ola Uber strike Passengers forced to get off cabs in Bengaluru

On Tuesday, over a lakh Uber and Ola drivers began an indefinite strike in Bengaluru. Drivers demanded better incentives and also a stop to new cars being attached to app-based cab aggregators in the city. Some protesters even ransacked an Uber office as well.

Uber, TaxiForSure and Ola (UTO) Drivers and Owners Association is extremely disappointed with the government as the latter has apparently remained silent over the issue that has been going on for quite some time in the Silicon Valley of India. The president of the UTO, Tanveer Pasha, even defended the act of vandalising the Uber office. Pasha said that the drivers lost their patience and thus they ransacked the Uber office.

On Wednesday, commuters bore the brunt of this protest as well. A number of passengers were forced to end their trip and get off their cabs midway from their destinations. Few protesters near the Malleshpalya Bus Stop on GM Palya Main Road were stopping cabs and were forcing passengers to get off.

“Operators like Ola promised to come up with a solution by Wednesday ... but they did not. Besides, when drivers went to discuss with Uber officials in HSR Layout, they gave an arrogant response,” Pasha said.

Apparently, Pasha has requested the protestors to convince the other drivers who are still plying on the roads of Bengaluru with chocolates and roses.

Previously, it was 30,000 cabs which went off the road and now the number has crossed a lakh causing major inconvenience to the daily commuters. The remaining cabs which are still plying are either scared to accept a duty or they are simply requesting passengers to cancel the booking. These are the drivers who cannot afford to go off the road as they earn their daily bread after driving throughout the day.

Passengers tweeted about their inconvenience as well. Here are some of those tweets:
