A sixteen-year-old girl from West Bengal was gang-raped by the accused in a tea garden in Poopara on May 29, 2022. The Devikulam fast track court found that the three accused had committed the crime under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The police investigation concluded that the allegations of sexual harassment against the teacher were fabricated, leading to the registration of a case against the individuals who conspired to file the false complaint.

 The police have registered a case against the girl's friend under Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Rape and POCSO Act. The authorities have taken the 14-year-old classmate into police custody, and a comprehensive investigation into the incident will be conducted.
