Republic Day 2019: Tears of happiness flow as transgender leader hoists flag in Bengaluru

Transgender activist Apsara Reddy hoisted the tricolour flag at hotel Lalit Ashok in Bengaluru and was moved to tears. This is the first time that a transgender has been given the honour.

Bengaluru: Transgender political leader Apsara Reddy hoisted the National Flag of India at the Lalit Ashok hotel in Bengaluru. It was an act that brought the political leader to tears. This is the first time a transgender was given this honour. Apsara Reddy, an activist and the general secretary of All India Mahila Congress was invited as the chief guest at Lalit Ashok in Bengaluru for Republic day celebrations. The hotel has 14% women staff already and is planning to increase it to 18% this year.
