Who will join Modi's cabinet from state?

  • PM Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have gathered all information about all BJP MPs
  • One minister’s post will definitely go to a Veerashaiva - Lingayata community MP
  • MP Shobha Karandlaje has been a minister in State and the lone woman candidate, has better chances
Who from State will join Modis cabinet

The Union Cabinet at the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to expand after the current Parliamentary sessions and curiosity has been kindled as to who from the State will get an opportunity to be a minister in Modi’s cabinet, reports Kannada Prabha.

Considering the administration of Modi government in the past three years, states that are going to polls have received an extra attention. Hence the expectation that State - where elections will be held next year - may receive some importance during cabinet expansion. However, the BJP leaders are tight lipped about who is going to be the lucky candidate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have gathered all information about all BJP MPs, both from their own sources and by talking to State BJP leaders. However, they have not disclosed any indication. It is also rumoured that an active MP who can go all out to woo young generation is being considered.

There are three ministers from State at the Union Cabinet - Ananthakumar and DV Sadananda Gowda are Union Cabinet ministers and Ramesh Jigajinagi is the Union Minister for State. Nirmala Seetharaman though elected from the State, her quota is considered as from Andhra Pradesh. As per sources two more will get Minister’s posts and it is being reported that the BJP is considering State leaders for the posts.

It is also rumoured that in the context of demand of declaring Lingayat as an independent religion, Veerashaiva - Lingayata community MP may get a preference. Apart from BS Yeddyurappa, other Lingayat MPs from the party are Suresh Angadi, Shivakumar Udasi, PC Gaddigoudar, Karadi Sanganna, Bhagavantha Khuba and GM Siddeshwar. Among them, Siddeshwar has already been a minister at the centre. Among the rest, Suresh Angadi of Belagavi is the senior most. He has been an MP thrice. He has a good equation with Yeddyurappa once but now it is not very good. Of course, it is not clear if Yeddyurappa’s opinion plays any part in the Centre's decision. Also, the Party politics in Belagavi being very strong, it is doubtful if Suresh Angadi will get the chance to become a minister, reports Kannada Prabha.

Haveri MP Shivakumar Udasi and Bhagavantha Khubha are both engineering graduates. Udasi is the second time MP and Khuba is first time MP. Gaddigoudar from Bagalkot though a senior has never stepped out of his constituency. Karadi Sanganna though a first time MP, has been a legislator four times. Angadi, Udasi and Gaddigoudar are from Mumbai Karnataka region. Since current minister Ramesh Jigajinagi is also from the same area, it is doubtful if another candidate is also selected from the same region. Then Khubha and Karadi from Hyderabad Karnataka region may have chances.

There are also discussions about giving prominence to coastal region. To counter the ruling Congress, a strong hold on coastal region must be established for BJP hence, Shobha Karandlaje of Udupi - Chikkamagaluru constituency and Nalin Kumar Kateel of Dakshina Kannada have chances of making it. Shobha Karandlaje has been a minister in the State is the lone woman candidate, hence has better chances. Another name that is doing the rounds is Pratap Simha, who is a first time MP.
