The situation is particularly harsh in North Karnataka, where both people and animals are struggling under extreme heat conditions. In multiple districts, temperatures have already crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark, raising health concerns and prompting weather warnings across the region. Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions as the heatwave is expected to persist in the coming days.

Temperatures Soar Above 40°C In North Karnataka

In more than five districts, temperatures have crossed 40 degrees Celsius. Kalaburagi recorded the highest at 42 degrees Celsius, one of the highest temperatures of the season so far. Gadag, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir have also reported similar extreme readings, indicating a widespread heatwave situation across North Karnataka.

IMD Issues Heatwave Warning For Several Districts

The India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for Bidar, Ballari, Vijayanagara, Bagalkote and Koppal districts. While no heavy rainfall is expected immediately, light showers may occur in some parts of the state after April 17.

Bengaluru, Also Witnesses Rising Temperatures

Bengaluru is also experiencing rising heat levels, with temperatures significantly above normal. The city recently recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius, surpassing last year’s March record of 35.4 degrees Celsius. The HAL area recorded 36.8 degrees Celsius, while the Kempegowda International Airport region recorded 36.1 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists note that temperatures are currently 2 to 3 degrees above normal, making conditions uncomfortable for residents.

Heat Expected To Intensify Further

Experts warn that Bengaluru’s temperature may rise up to 38 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with the intense heat likely to continue for another month. Weather expert Srinivas Reddy has advised the public to avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours unless necessary. He also recommended using protective measures such as umbrellas, hats and sunglasses.

Residents are further advised to stay hydrated by consuming sufficient water, fruit juices and seasonal fruits. Special care is recommended for the elderly, children and individuals with existing health conditions.

Kalaburagi Under Yellow Alert Till April 17

Kalaburagi district, already experiencing severe heat conditions, remains under a yellow alert until April 17. Authorities have warned of a high risk of heat-related health issues and have advised residents to avoid stepping out between 12 pm and 5 pm.

The District Disaster Management Authority has issued more than 20 precautionary guidelines to help residents cope with the extreme weather. Officials have urged people to consume plenty of water, buttermilk and other cooling beverages to stay safe during the ongoing heatwave.
