Rajinikanth: 'Viral letter' is fake, not quitting politics

The viral letter had sparked off frenzy among fans and political pundits, forcing the actor to take to micro-blogging site Twitter to clarify that the so-called statement doing the rounds is fake. But he admitted that some details about his health in the statement were correct.

<p>The letter that was claimed to be from Rajini said that if he were to start a party it would have to be firmed up by December and the announcement would have to come by January 15. However, the 'leaked' letter claimed the actor’s doctors had expressed reservations over Rajini getting into active politics considering that he had undergone a kidney transplant.</p>

<p><strong>Rajinikanth's Twitter message said:</strong> "A letter appearing to be my statement is being shared on social media and in the press virally. Everybody knows that I have not given the statement. Nevertheless, the portion about my health and doctor's advice to me are true. I will make an announcement regarding my political stand to the people regarding this at the right time after consulting with my Rajini Makkal Mandram members."</p>

<p>To recall, Rajinikath had announced his decision to enter politics before his fans in December 2017 at the Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai. Since then, the actor has yet to reveal his roadmap or when he would actually decide on contesting.</p>
