Salman Khan's lyricist arrested for threatening actor to promote his song
A 24-year-old lyricist who worked on a Salman Khan film has been arrested for sending death threats to the actor. The police say the threats were intended to publicize the song and help the lyricist gain fame.
A Bollywood-style twist has emerged in the death threat case against actor Salman Khan. A 24-year-old lyricist who worked on a Salman Khan film has been arrested for sending the threats.
On November 7, a threat message was received on the Mumbai City Police's WhatsApp helpline, threatening the lyricist of the song 'Main Sikandar Hun' and Salman Khan unless they paid ₹5 crores. The message threatened to make the lyricist incapable of writing songs again and challenged Salman Khan to save him if he dared.
Days later, on Tuesday, the lyricist, Sohail Pasha, was arrested from Raichur in Karnataka. Police say Pasha sent the threats to publicize the song and gain fame for himself.
The Crime Branch traced the mobile number from which the threat message originated to Raichur. When the Mumbai Police team arrived in Karnataka and questioned the number's owner, farmer Venkatesh Narayan, he claimed it was a basic phone without internet access, let alone WhatsApp.
However, upon examining the phone, the police found an OTP message for installing WhatsApp. Narayan told the police that on November 3, a stranger approached him in a market and asked him to borrow his phone for a call.
With the help of the Cyber Cell, the Mumbai Crime Branch traced Pasha to Manavi village near Raichur. Pasha was brought to Mumbai and presented in court, which remanded him to police custody.
