Senior Congress leader and prominent Punjab leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar dropped a political bombshell when he announced that he was quitting active electoral politics. Asianet Newsable spoke to Jakhar at length a couple of days before he made this decision.

The ruling Congress party on Sunday declared the chief ministerial face for the Punjab assembly elections. The battle was between the present chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state party president Navjot Singh Sidhu. In the end, the battle was won by Channi. In such a situation, the question that now emerges is how did Sidhu get left behind in this battle of CM face; here are some reasons: 

The rise of the 58-year-old Dalit legislator had several strong factors going for him which the party could have hardly ignored.

The 68-year-old Jakhar didn’t reveal his plans, saying, “What life has in store for you in the future cannot be predicted.”

The Second Golden Temple is dedicated to the saint Ravidas in Kashi, the city of religion and spirituality. This is also because its head is the birthplace of Govardhan, Saint Shiromani Ravidas ji. In February, a huge number of devotees from Uttar Pradesh and Punjab visit Ravidas Ji's birthplace.

The Congress MP further stated that he is not shocked that his name is not on the list of prominent campaigners. He said he would have been astonished if my name had been there.

Ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal stated on Saturday that if the AAP is elected to power in Punjab, it will abolish corruption in government employment.

Punjab CM face Bhagwant Mann's statement came after Irani criticised the Delhi government's updated liquor policy which claimed that Kejriwal opened liquor stores solely for profit.

A new solution is reportedly being toyed with -- a two-and-a-half-year chief ministerial tenure for each. 

The grand old party has released a list of 30-star campaigners’ for Punjab which also includes party president Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi.
