The Election Commission had made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth progress of voting in 4 states and the Union Territory of Puducherry with adequate emphasis on maintaining Covid-appropriate behaviour. Let's take a look.

According to Election Commission guidelines, COVID-19-positive patients can go to the polling booth to vote between 6 pm and 7 pm, provided they have not applied for a postal ballot.

The Election Commission found substance in the Congress party's complaint against Sarma for openly threatened Hagrama Mohilary of sending him to jail by misusing a central agency.

A day after a video surfaced on social media which allegedly showed electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the car of Patharkandi BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul, the Election Commission ordered repolling in polling station 179 of Ratabari seat in Assam.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the NDA will form the government in Assam and said people have stamped the victory in the first phase of polling.

Covid-19 protocols for the voters including social distancing and thermal screening are being maintained.  

Addressing media persons in New Delhi, Amit Shah thanked the people of both states for a high turnout in the first phase of the election. 

In Assam, 47 Assembly seats are going to polls, with 264 candidates in the fray. Voting is being held today in 30 of Bengal’s 294 Assembly seats.

Addressing a poll rally at Bihpuria in Assam, PM Modi said, “Congress can do anything for votes. This is not ‘Mahajot’, it’s a ‘Mahajhoot’ which neither has a representative nor policy. Such an alliance can only guarantee infiltration and corruption.”
