For instance, BJP leader and MLA from Fatehabad Jitendra Verma Jitendra Varma jumped ship to SP as he was denied a ticket and the saffron party fielded another candidate in his place for the upcoming elections.

During a news conference, BJP national president JP Nadda said that the BJP will run for 65 seats, the PLC for 37, and the SAD (S) for 15.

Noting that Rai was in the BJP earlier, party’s state unit chief Swatantra Dev Singh said his return to the party was ‘ghar wapsi’ which will strengthen it in the region.

The 403-seat UP assembly where Yogi rules with an iron-clad majority of 314 seats, is up for grabs in a 7-phase election from February 10 to March 7. Results will be announced on March 10.

“Now the fight in Panaji will be between dishonesty and character as Utpal Parrikar (son of late former Goa CM Manohar Parrikar) has announced that he will contest as an independent candidate from Panaji constituency,” Sanjay Raut said.

Talking to ANI, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said that the party will support him if he contests elections independently.

This is the first time Akhilesh Yadav, who is a Lok Sabha member of Parliament from Azamgarh, will contest elections for the state Assembly. When he became the Uttar Pradesh chief minister in 2012, he took the Legislative Council route.
