Azamgarh, Mau, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, and Sonbhadra are the districts voting in the final phase. According to Ajay Kumar Shukla, Chief Electoral Officer, all necessary arrangements have been made for free, fair, and transparent voting in the seventh phase.
The first incident took place in Thoubal district and the second in Senapati district.
The second phase of polling is considered a litmus test for the former Chief Minister and Congress leader Ibobi Singh, former deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, incumbent ministers Letpao Haokip (sports), Losii Dikho (public health engineering), Awangbow Newmai (forest) from Thoubal, Nungba, Tengnoupal, Mao and Tamei constituencies, respectively.
“When these ‘Pariwarwadis’ were in power, they used to put obstacles in whatever work we used to bring for the development of UP. These Pariwarwadis didn’t let the poor, marginalised section develop,” PM Modi said.
WB CM Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP workers have nothing except hooliganism in their brains.
While the incumbent BJP seeks to maintain power in the state, opposition parties such as the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party hope to dethrone the Yogi Adityanath administration.
Adityanath is running for the Gorakhpur Urban Assembly seat. Following the voting, the Chief Minister urged the voters to vote on development and security issues.
"The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections have reached a critical juncture. You have witnessed growth developments in the last five years, from the opening of AIIMS to the Kushinagar International Airport. Each of your votes would propel Uttar Pradesh to the top of India's economic rankings," Yogi Adityanath said.
The Trinamool Congress supremo is in Varanasi to take part in Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav’s rally for the last phase of the UP election on March 3.
Speaking to the media after voting, Singh expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would be elected to power in the state. He stated, "The BJP expects to win at least 30 of the 38 seats in the first round. Manipur's people admire Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
