The upcoming edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League, the most prominent Twenty20 league globally, would be the 14th edition of the tournament. As usual, eight traditional teams would once again fight it out for the coveted title, likely to be held in April-May.

Of the eight sides, three teams are yet to win the title to date. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab, too, is one of the sides that awaits its maiden title win. However, come next season, it is all set to get a new identity, as it is set to undergo a name change.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, the official announcement regarding the same would be made on Wednesday, with owners Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman and Karn Paul unveiling the new logo for the franchise. Burman reckoned that the decision to change the side's name was being planned for almost a year.

"We put it to research, both with fans and with closed groups and have finally arrived at the new name. The idea behind the new name is to add a fresh look and a fresh feel to the franchise. As with any product/service, everything has its own life cycle, and we believe given the changing ethos and the audience taste we thought it was apt for the brand to go through a complete new refresh," Burman told ESPNCricinfo.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the franchise would participate in the pre-season mini-auction. As of now, it has 16 players in the side, including three overseas players. It can sign up to nine more players at the auction, including a maximum of five more overseas players, while it has a salary cap of ₹53.2 crore. The side will be led by wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul, as it finished sixth last season.
