Nandyal elections Why all 250 postal votes went to neither TDP or YSRCP

For the Nandyal elections, a total of 250 postal ballots were cast, surprisingly the votes went neither to TDP or YSRCP.

The Nandyal by-election saw a first of many things, it was a battle for prestige for both TDP and opposition YSRCP. However, if one goes by the postal ballots received for the by-election, voter discontent was evident against both the regional parties. Out of the 250 postal ballot votes, 39 have been declared invalid and 211 NOTA.

The election campaigning saw a pitched battle being fought between both parties. The leaders didn’t maintain their dignity and verbally attacked each other.

There are several theories being floated. Political pundits are of the opinion that the postal voters were worried about the repercussions. There were incidents, of TDP workers manhandling YSRCP and that must have scared of the postal voters.

To some extent, even YSRCP chief YS Jagan has to be blamed. In the heat of the moment during the campaigning, Jagan even said: “...there is nothing wrong if Chandrababu Naidu is shot dead on the road for not fulfilling election promises.”

Later the state Election Commission even pulled him up for his comments against TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
