Kakinada polled comparatively less than Nandyal with just 67 per cent

Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections registered 67 per cent polling on Tuesday. Apart from a few stray incidents, the polling process ended smoothly.

Kakinada rural had a much better polling than the urban voter and the reason for this seems to be that there was no declared holiday by the government. Every prominent election is declared a holiday but Kakinada didn’t have the provision.

KMC had a total of 50 divisions but polls were conducted only for 48 while the remaining were stayed by a court order. TDP (Telugu Desam Party) contested in 39 divisions leaving nine to its alliance partner BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) while YCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) contested in all the divisions. There were 241 candidates in the fray.

The turnout for Kakinada polling was comparatively lesser than that of Nandyal though it was just a week between both polling days. Nandyal voters stood in lines from morning till night with a huge turnout of 80 per cent while Kakinada voters especially urban voters polled less in spite of repeated requests by the party leaders and workers.

There are 2,29,373 voters in Kakinada municipality and counting of votes will commence on September 1st.
