Here is why 20 leaders who defected to TDP are so worried

The 20 MLAs who defected YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) to join TDP (Telugu Desam Party) are tensed over the result of Nandyal by-election as this result is the basis of their future in TDP.

As is known, Nandyal is also the constituency of defected TDP leader Bhuma Nagireddy, who died after joining TDP from YSRCP. His daughter Bhuma Akhila Priya is minister of Tourism in the TDP government. The by-election is to find a replacement for Nagireddy and ethically when an MLA dies, the opposition would decline to contest resulting in a unanimous election.

But in this case, since Nagireddy who won on YSRCP ticket, later on defected to join TDP and died, YSRCP decided to contest the election. Both the cadres have taken the by-election as prestigious as this would be a pre-final before the 2019 elections.

The existence of the 20 defected MLAs is in a dilemma as their political future is based on the result of Nandyal by-election since Nandyal constituency is also a defected MLA’s constituency. Nandyal result would be an example of the anti-TDP government.

If YSRCP wins the Nandyal constituency, they could demand for the resignation of the defected MLAs and force the government for a fresh poll.  There win would have a direct effect on Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya.

The defected MLAs may not get a TDP party ticket to contest in the 2019 elections. Fearing for their very political existence, most of the defected MLAs are taking part in the Nandyal by-election campaign against YSRCP.
