One person has died and 10 others have fallen ill after drinking contaminated water in Kolkata's Bhowanipore area. 

However, the Calcutta Municipality is reluctant to accept the allegation of death due to water pollution. Chief Administrator of Kolkata Municipality Firhad Hakim has directed to collect water samples and send them to the lab. There is a lot of fuss about this situation.

It is learned that BJP leader Pamela Goswami, who was arrested in a drug case, fell ill in Alipore women's jail. Another prisoner has reportedly died. Five more inmates were admitted to the hospital with diarrhea.

On Sunday, the news of the death of 55-year-old Bhubaneswar Das came to light at the workers' residence at Shashishekhar Bose Road No. 5 in Ward No. 63 of Kolkata Municipality. It was alleged that the drinking water pipe burst and caused pollution in the sewage water.

Allegedly, more than one person fell ill after drinking the water and one died. Locals complained that the problem started on March 11. Locals claim that they have been getting a bad smell in the drinking water for the last few days. Since then, several residents of the area have contracted diarrhea.

However, local pipeline coordinator Ratan Malakar said the pipeline would be fixed by Sunday (March 21). However, dismissing the allegation of death due to water pollution, Firhad Hakim said, "Any death is sad. I sympathize. However, I heard that he died of a heart attack and other physical problems.”

According to administration sources, after the incident, on Tuesday (March 160, the municipal officials will go to the Alipore Women's Jail and check the water samples. Besides, the municipality is sending 3 drinking water trucks to the area in the morning and afternoon. After the incident, Firhad Hakim said, “As soon as I heard the news this morning, I sent the DG of the water supply department there. Asked to collect samples. I hope to get the report soon.”
