Andhra Pradesh local body election: Rs 1.28 crore worth ornaments, Rs 45 lakh seized

As the Election Commission prepares for the election to local bodies in four phases in Andhra Pradesh, starting from March 21, officials acting on a tipoff, managed to seize Rs 1.28 crore ornaments and Rs 45 lakh

Based on a tipoff that ornaments and cash will be distributed to influence voters during local body polls, search operations were conducted on the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana border, Krishna District and Suryapet District. Officials ended up in seizing Rs 1.28 crore worth gold and silver ornaments and Rs 45 lakh in cash.

 

Andhra Pradesh Police suspected that something was wrong when the spotted a man carrying a bag. Upon searching him, Rs 45 lakh cash was found. The person failed to give any explanation and was arrested.

In another incident at a bus station, police seized gold and silver ornaments. Cash and ornaments were handed over to the returning officer and three persons have been apprehended in this regard.
