21 hurt as temple fireworks go astray in Kerala

The horrific incident occurred during the fireworks display at the Nadakkavu Devi temple at around 9 pm on January 29 in Kerala


Ernakulam: At least 21 people, including women and children, were injured when a piece of powerful cracker accidentally fell among them during a pyrotechnic display at a temple in Kerala. The incident occurred at Nadakkavu temple in Tripunithura on January 29.

Police and fire and rescue department officials, who reached the spot on hearing about the incident, took the injured people to the hospital. It is reported that the police had initially not permitted the bursting of crackers at the temple. The temple authorities then approached the high court and secured permission to burst the crackers.

Police have also registered a case against the temple committee in connection with the incident.  Earlier, more than 100 lives were lost on April 10, 2016 in a similar incident.
