Maharashtra: BMC issues WFH order for all teachers, school staff as COVID cases surge in Mumbai

Previously, staff members were allowed to come to school. Teachers were also allowed to take online classes from school.

Mumbai: In the wake of the rising cases of coronavirus in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a fresh order asking teachers and non-teaching staff of Mumbai schools to work from home till further order.

In the fresh order, the BMC said that from 17 March, schools of all boards, till Class 12, will have to ask staff to work from home. Previously, staff members were allowed to come to school. Teachers were also allowed to take online classes from school.

The BMC also issued order asking all schools in its jurisdiction to discontinue 50% rotational attendance rule from March 17.

The latest circular issued by the civic body stated that school principals and management can call one teacher and non-teaching staff to the school, in case if an important work crops up.

Teachers have been asked to submit a report of their teaching and send across learning material to students online. Non-teaching staff of schools can be called as and when needed by the principals to ensure cleanliness and regular maintenance of schools.

Since March 3, the metropolis has seen a daily addition in the 1,000 plus range, with the number of active cases soaring from 9,690 on March 1 to 15,263 on Tuesday, BMC officials pointed out. Meanwhile, with four deaths in the last 24 hours, the toll reached 11, 539.

With 19,009 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of tests in Mumbai went up to 35,74,056.
