The world is set to witness the most prominent sporting spectacle as the Tokyo Olympics 2020 gets underway from July 23. The event originally scheduled to take place last year but was postponed due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

Athletes across the globe would be participating in various sporting verticles for the ultimate supremacy of themselves and their respective nations. Consequently, the winners would be handed the three traditional medals: Gold (1st sport), Silver (2nd spot) and Bronze (3rd spot).

However, the medals of this edition would be unique, as they would be prepared in a specific manner. According to Tokyo 2020 for India's Twitter handle, the medals would be designed using recycled electronic devices, abandoned laptops and smartphones. "Athletes at #Tokyo2020 will be presented with medals composed of recycled electronic devices, including discarded laptops and smartphones #DidYouKnow," the tweet read.

In the meantime, Thomas Bach, the International Olympic Committee president, would be visiting Tokyo on July 8 to analyse the preparations, just a couple of weeks before the opening ceremony. "He will go to Tokyo fully vaccinated and, just like all Games participants, will follow the Playbooks guidelines to ensure that the Games are safe and secure this summer," the Olympics said in a statement.

He would be conducting virtual meetings with the delegates arriving, stakeholders and the organising committee on July 12. He is also supposed to visit Hiroshima four days later to begin the Olympic Truce. Also, the IOC Executive Board is expected to meet on July 17 and 18, while the 138th IOC Session would be conducted a couple of days later.
