A recipient of Kerala State Film Award for four times, Razaq has penned scripts for nearly 30 movies that left a mark in the Malayalam film with the simplicity and earthiness of his characters and themes.

Razaq began his career in Mollywood as an associate director with A T Abu in the film 'Dhwani' but chose script writing as his forte. 'Vishnulokam,' directed by Kamal, was the first film he scripted. The movie starring Mohanlal and Urvashi, the popular pair of the 90s, was very successful in the box office.

Later he won state award for best story and screenplay for the film 'Kanakinavu' in 1996. It also won the National Award for best feature on national integration.

'Aayirathil Oruvan' and 'Perumazhakkalam' also won him Kerala State Film Award for best story in 2002 and 2004 respectively. Naadodi, Bhoomigeetham, Gazal, Sneham and Saaphalyam are few other notable movies he wrote. Razaq drew his themes from his surroundings and was widely appreciated for picking up memorable characters from ordinary life.

Born on 25 April, 1958 at Kondotty in Malappuram, he was active in theatre movement in his youth. He scripted and directed many one-act plays during this period and started an alternative magazine 'Vara.' Though he joined Kerala Road Transport Corporation as a clerk, he left the job later to dedicate entirely for films.

The last film he penned, 'Sukhamayirikkatte,' hit the screens early this year.
