Ola Uber drivers threaten to go on strike again if demands not met

People in Bengaluru faced a lot of issues when 30,000 Ola and Uber cabs went off the roads on Monday. The drivers have been protesting about the differential fares charges by the app-based cab aggregators. Tanveer Pasha, the president of the Ola, Taxiforsure and Uber Drivers Union even submitted a petition of their demands to the state transport minister Ramalinga Reddy.

The transport minister met the cab aggregators on Wednesday. Reddy stated that he has asked the transport commissioner and the additional commissioner to look into the matter immediately. Currently, the state transport minister is awaiting reports from the two.

“We have called both the parties. We will first hear from both the sides, see if the demands can be fulfilled, and then we will make the necessary recommendations,” Transport Commissioner K Ayyappa said after the first round of meeting with the aggregators.

The drivers were not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. Although they have called off the strike temporarily but they are now threatening to continue with their strike if their demands are not met within the next three days.

However, there are people in drivers union who have split due to several reasons. Few of the drivers said that they are in favour of the demands of the OTU but for that they cannot keep off their cabs off the roads as it is going to affect their livelihood.

Surprisingly an Uber spokesperson revealed that many of the drivers are not even from the union. They are the drivers who have been suspended by the cab aggregators for fraud or for other charges.
