Now Kerala Tourism faces the heat post demonetisation

Kerala is referred to as the “God’s Own Country” because of its rich timeless traditions, enchanting beaches, delectable delicacies and last but not the least the picturesque backwaters. And these are the reasons why people from all over India and from around the globe used to love visiting Kerala time and again to make new memories.

Unfortunately, Kerala has not been able to draw the tourists in recent times and as a result the state’s tourism has incurred a humongous loss of ₹ 1,000 crore. And there is no prize for guessing as this has all happened after demonetisation.

Ideally, why will a state like Kerala, which is thronged mostly by foreigners and Indian nationals throughout the year? However, Kerala is not the only state to have been going through such a state. There are a number of other states as well which have been hit badly after demonetisation.

Tourism Minister of Kerala, Kadakampally Surendran confirmed that the state usually earns close to ₹ 25,000 crore every year and that has gone down drastically after currency ban. Surendran also stated that the Centre has not helped them in any way so that they can revive from this situation.

The houseboats in backwaters, which were one of the most popular attractions in Kerala was almost on the verge of collapse.

However, the Tourism department is working hard to introduce 79 new tourist spots which would be a part of an environment-friendly green carpet project.
