NIA chargesheet names Abdulla as chief conspirator behind ISIS recruitment

NIA books brain behind recruitment to ISIS

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two persons suspected of criminal conspiracy with the intention to recruit and support Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist outfit. The accused Abdul Rashid Abdulla, a native of Kasargod and Yasmeen Mohammad Zahid, from Sitamarhi in Bihar were booked under various provisions of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. NIA, in its charge sheet, has mentioned Abdulla as the master mind behind recruitment of youth from Kasargod. 
 

The national agency, during its probe, has found that Abdulla was the chief conspirator behind the recruitment of Keralites to ISIS. He was found to guilty of motivating youth, along with their families, in Kasargod to exit from India and join the terrorist organisation. During the investigation, it was found that Abdulla used to conduct classes, inside and outside India, in support of ISIS and spread the ideology of Jihad through violence. He motivated Zahid along with 14 others to join the terrorist outfit and plan for the 'Hijrah to Caliphate', as announce by ISIS. 
 

It was also found that he had been operating for ISIS since July 2015. 
 

NIA personnel arrested Zahid from New Delhi airport on July 30, 2016, while she was trying to exit India to Kabul, along with her minor child. She was planning to join Abdulla in Kabul in Afghanistan. 
 

The investigation also revealed that Abdulla had raised funds for ISIS and had transferred it to Zahid, who used it for various activities to support the terrorist organisation.
