A man, suspected to be mentally unstable, set a compartment of the Mumbai-bound Netravati Express on fire at Kayamkulam in Kerala on Tuesday morning. Though the fire caught up within no time, a major tragedy was averted by the timely intervention by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and passengers. All passengers are safe.
The passengers detected smoke coming out of the toilet of a general compartment of the Mumbai-bound Netravati Express from Thiruvananthapuram when the train came to a halt at Kayamkulam Railway Station at around 11. 45 am.

The RPF and the passengers broke open the door of the toilet and found a man with burn injuries on his body. The compartment was soon separated from the train. The police said that the man who set old clothes on fire using petrol in the toilet is a native of Coimbatore. He showed signs of mental disturbance and was admitted to a hospital.
