The Left government in  Kerala will not only review the Liquor policy of the previous regime that closed down more than 700 bars, but would also take positive measures to reduce the sickening queue in front of the liquor outlets. The plan is to allow special liquor counters at supermarkets, just as in big towns.

Criticising the liquor policy of the UDF government,  Excise Minister TP Ramakrishnan said that it was impractical and lacked 'real life experience.'  The government will consider allowing distribution of liquor through malls and supermarkets to reduce the long queue before the beverage outlets. In modern cities, supermarkets have special liquor counters. The government would also consider such measures, the minister said.

Kerala Tourism Minister AC Moideen had also demanded a change in liquor policy citing that the tourism industry suffered the most, thanks to the policy. The Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala also joined the clamour for a change in the policy, much to the embarrassment of his party and the UDF.
