Know why these Bengalureans want steel flyover

Residents in the periphery of Hebbal that connects to Airport and other areas cursed the authorities for not strengthening their defense in demanding implementation of steel flyover and road widening. The Resident Welfare Association said as many activists stay in South, East and Central part of the city, they do not understand the traffic related issues that people from Bengaluru North face.

Hebbal Hitharakshana Vedike a confederation for residential welfare organisation which staged protest other day demanding steel bridge said any project to ease traffic is welcomed.

“There are many patients and going to nearby hospitals is a challenge during peak hours. Children going to school and office goers all are put to inconvenience. If the steel bridge is put from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal then 40 percent of traffic can be diverted," Anand a local leader from Hebbal said.

Wajid, a corporator from Manorayana Palaya and member  Hebbal Hitharakshana Vedike said although many do not want the trees to be cut for steel flyover and for road widening project, there are also people who are affected by bad traffic and those sections want these projects to be taken up at fast pace.

"We do love trees, but at the same time, we want development. There are many places where afforestation can be taken up. I appeal to those, who are objecting development project here to plant more trees in surrounding than coming in the way of the project," he added.

People coming from Byatrayanpur and V Nagenahalli and other areas are the worst hit. "I have to drop my son at school by 9 and everyday I get stuck in traffic. If we get projects to ease traffic, we will welcome it,” RR Patil a resident of Amruthalli said.

Byrathi Suresh  MLC, who got stuck in traffic for nearly two hours, opined that the residents from Hebbal, Manorayanapalaya, V Nagenahalli, Byatrayanpura Sanjaynagar, Amruthhalli, JC Nagar and other areas in the North Bengaluru should be given the right to decide about the project.

"The protest and demands from this side are not shown and only against the steel bridge and road widening project is being shown. Many of the activists are not from these surroundings and once the protest is over the go back home and we are left to suffer in traffic," said Suresh.
