Kerala Revenue Minister E Chandrashekharan feels that police escort is too much of a burden and a thing of the past that should have been dumped long back.
"Since I became the Minister, they (police officers) are following me from dawn to dusk. They don't even let me urinate," the minister said in a lighter tone while inaugurating the district conference of Kerala Police Association at Kasargode on Monday.
The custom of the police escorting ministers is irrelevant and be dumped. A big team of police officers are accompanying me wherever I went. It incurs a huge burden on the public, Chandrashekharan said.
"The most disturbing thing is the plight of the guards who are destined to scurry to make sure that everything is in order. It is worse than the period of the royals. I don't understand why ministers should travel with such a big police cover," the Revenue Minister stated.
"I Know, it is part of the protocol and the rules. We should seriously consider changing the norms according to times," said Chandrashekharan, who is representing the CPI in the Pinarayi Vijayan ministry. Chandrashekharan,66, represents Kanhangad constituency in Kasargod and is a popular face of the CPI.
