College management has banned students unions from functioning on the campus Principal said the authorities does not promote friendship between teachers and students in non-curricular matters
It was only recently that Students Federation of India (SFI), the youth wing of Communist Party of India - marxist, the ruling party of Kerala, came under fire over alleged incidents of moral policing by its cadres. Now, M. Dasan Institute of Technology at Ulliyeri, Kozhikode, a college under the control of CPM, has barred its faculty from befriending students on social media.

The principal issued a circular banning teachers and friends becoming friends on Facebook.
"Instance have come to the notice of the undersigned that some of our faculty members have Facebook contact with students even though there is clear direction to avoid such contacts. So all the concerned are directed to abide by the instructions already issued in this regard and to discontinue such practices in future," the circular read.
College management does not promote friendship between teachers and students in non-curricular matters. "We issued the circular after it came to our notice that some teachers had students on their friend list on Facebook," college principal P T Rajan Nambiar told Manoramaonline.
The college is in the name of former CPM Kozhikode district secretary M Dasan and is managed by the party. About 800 students are studying here. Even in a college run by ruling party, students organisations, including SFI, are banned from functioning on the campus.
