Jisha case: Chief Minister confirms reports, congratulates SIT

Jisha murder: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan confirms custody of murder

 Though the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is yet to confirm the 'arrest' of the murder of the Jisha, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is also handles the Home portfolio, has congratulated all the team members of the SIT for nabbing the culprit in the sensational case. 
 

"It is a golden feather in the cap of Kerala Police and the Home Department," Chief Minister said. "The details of the culprit will be announced shortly," he added. The police have received all the information on the suspect. The suspect has been under scanner from yesterday. Indeed, Kerala is waiting for the big news, he said.

Former Home Minister and present Leader of Opposition  Ramesh Chennithala also congratulated the police team. "It proves once again the brilliance of Kerala Police," he said. The allegation that evidences had been destroyed by the police during the UDF rule was proved false , he added.

An inner-migrant labourer from Assam had landed in the net of the SIT in connection with the murder. The SIT sources had given hints that Amyur Ul Islam, who is in custody now, is the prime suspect in the case. The blood sample of the suspect has been sent for tests and the result is considered to be very crucial in solving the murder case.  The SIT is likely to announce the big break in the case this afternoon.

Either ADGP B Sandhya, who is leading the SIT or the State Police Chief Loknath Behra, who is in Mumbai now, is likely to announce the arrest of the criminal  in the afternoon. 


The suspect, according to police, has confessed the crime. His arrest will be recorded only after the DNA test.

 

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder was groping in the dark till a pair of sandals, suspected to have used by the murderer, was recovered from the banks of a canal near Jisha's house. The sandals had blood stains, and the SIT took the lead and zeroed in on the Assam native.  The SIT is also interrogating four friends of the suspect. 

 

Amyur Ul Islam and his friends, all manual labourers, were living 200 meters from the house of Jisha. The police suspect that the suspect is a sex pervert.  Separate investigation teams, under the SIT, had conducted extensive investigation in Assam, West Bengal and Jharkhand to find a clue to the case. The man in custody now, had escaped the state just after the incident. The police team went to his home village in Assam. But the SIT sources says that he landed in the net at Palakkad in Kerala. 

 

However, in the absence of witnesses, the SIT will have to collect as much scientific evidence as possible to reach a logical conclusion. The SIT is likely to convene a press conference to announce the arrest of the suspect in the afternoon. 

 

Jisha, a 29-year-old law student, was found murdered on April 28 at her home in Perumbavoor by her mother who works as a casual labourer. 

 

The crime has been dubbed "Kerala's Nirbhaya" for its similarities to the 2012 gangrape of a young paramedic student in a moving bus in Delhi. The murder evoked an instant outrage in the state and was a major poll issue during the Assembly elections.
