A farmer from a tiny village in Ramanagara taluk in Karnataka found a rare breed of dog in a forest and decided to adopt it. As it turned out, it was a fox.

Fascinated by it long hair and black eyes, Shivu adopted the baby fox and named it Rani.

All went well until Shivu noticed that his pet Rani was unlike other dogs. Rani wouldn't bark but howl. However, apparently blinded by puppy love, Shivu dismissed Rani's mannerism.

However, one day when Rani attempted to attack a calf, Shivu was certain that something was amiss.

When the villagers got to know about Rani's true identity, they decided to kill it. However, Shivu stepped in and decided to call the People for Animal (PFA) foundation instead, who took custody of the fox.

“Shivu approached us for help. We’ll keep the fox under observation for few months and release her back to the forest,” said PFA member Chethan Sharma.
