Police will book the offender for reckless and dangerous driving. It will be produced at the court along with their drunk driving ticket as well.
Gone are those days when you will just pay a fine or bribe the policemen and drive away under the influence of alcohol. Now if you are caught for drinking and driving, you will have to produce your original driving license or else FIR will be registered against you under the IPC Section 279.

Police will book the offender for reckless and dangerous driving. It will be produced at the court along with their drunk driving ticket as well. The Bengaluru City Police have been following this process since the last three months in order to curb the menace of drinking and driving and also reckless driving under the influence of alcohol.
However, the city police have confirmed that there is no spot fine for drunk driving. The person is usually given a notice, which will be sent to the court and then the offender has to pay the fine there. If one fails to pay the fine of ₹ 2000, then he can face imprisonment up to 6 months.
If the offender is caught again for drunk driving, then he can go behind the bars for two years or will have to pay a fine up to ₹ 3000. But in this case, the offender will not be allowed to drive unless and until he/she pays the fine or serves the punishment.
“Offenders promise to come back with their original DLs after we seize their vehicle. But later, they come up with excuses for not producing their DLs. Some even try to bribe our men,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
