Amiyur claims innocence denies killing Jisha

For the first time since his arrest, Amiyur ul Islam, the lone accused in the Jisha rape and murder case, has denied the charges against him claiming that he was not responsible for the murder of the Dalit law student in Perumbavoor on April 28.

While deposing before the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court, Amiyur said it was his friend Anar ul Islam who committed the crime as he bore a hatred towards Jisha.  Amiyur was produced in the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court after his custodial period ended on Tuesday.

Amiyur repeated his statements to presspersons while been taken back into the police vehicle after the hearing and stating that the police knew about Anar's whereabouts .

In an interview with Asianet News, Amiyur's brother  Badar ul Islam, had said that his brother was innocent and blamed Anarul for the brutal murder. Badarul added that though Amiyur was present at the crime scene, he played no role in the murder.

The police had been suspicious about the involvement of a third person when they found a set of  unidentified fingerprints at Jisha's house, however, the police team who went to Assam in search of Anarul failed to trace him.

According to the chargesheet filed on September 17, the Special Investigative Team (SIT) had named 'Amiyur ul Islam as the lone suspect' in the case at Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court.

The migrant labourer was booked for murder and rape under IPC 449, 376, 302 and also charged for atrocities against Dalits.

The 1500 pages chargesheet states that Amiyur entered Jisha's house at Vattolipadi near Perumbavoor on April 28 in an inebriated state and tried to force himself on her and when the law student resisted his advances he murdered her. There is no mention of Anarul in the entire report.

The chargesheet was filed 90  days after the arrest of Amiyur from Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu where he was living in hiding after the murder of Jisha, a law student of Ernakulam Law College.
