The Congress remark came just hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nothing to hide or be afraid of. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has written to RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and SEBI Chairman Madhabi Puri Buch, requesting a non-partial investigation into the Adani case.

SEBI has clarified its stand on the ongoing controversy involving the Adani Group, stating that it is committed to ensuring market integrity'.

On January 24, US short seller Hindenburg Research had published a report on Adani Group accusing it of improper use of offshore tax havens and flagging concerns about high debt that sent the Group stocks to crash.

Amid Adani-Hindenburg row, various Opposition parties have demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe or a Supreme Court-monitored committee investigation into the Adani issue while also seeking a discussion on it in Parliament.

The regulator noted that immediately prior to the investigation period, the shares of Gitanjali Gems, excluding promoter holding and holdings of banks/ financial institutions/ FPIs, available to the general investors was 28.96 per cent for the quarter ended June 2011.

On November 27, 2020, SEBI restrained the founder-promoters Prannoy and Radhika Roy "from accessing the securities market, and further prohibiting buying, selling, or otherwise dealing in securities, directly or indirectly, or being associated with the securities market in any manner whatsoever for a period of 2 years".

A discount of Rs 45 per equity share will be given to LIC employees along with retail investors on subscribing the company's shares. Similarly, LIC policyholders will receive a discount of Rs 60 per share.

The government was anticipated to sell 3.5% of its interest in LIC for Rs 21,000 crore, subject to clearance from capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India, SEBI.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India has approved the modified draught red herring prospectus, which specifies a 3.5 percent share sale rather than the 5 percent stated in prior draught documents, according to the reports.

Notably, the LIO IPO would contribute significantly to the divestiture profits projected for the current fiscal year. The government expects divestment proceeds to reach Rs 65,000 crore in 2022-23, up from Rs 13,531 crore in the previous fiscal year.

The IPO was supposed to go live in March, but it was pushed back owing to the slow market created by the Russia-Ukraine scenario. The government has approved to hold the largest initial public offering (IPO) of LIC between April 25 and 29.

According to various media reports, the government is in contact with bankers and experts to finalise the company's red-herring prospectus for the initial public offering. They also stated that global economic worries have been taken into account, and market volatility has subsided.
