The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday transferred the case related to the January 5 attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam presided over the division bench, which declined to intervene in a single bench order allowing Adhikari and another BJP MLA, Shankar Ghosh, to visit Sandeshkhali on Tuesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud also asked the deputy commissioner to appoint a new returning officer who is not associated to any political party.
